Military Issued 1911 Serial Number Tables This John Browning patent gun, Model 1911, was so named for the year it was officially adopted for use by the United States Army. The Browning design was so great, that it has been changed little in over 100 years of production. Have apparently a WWII 1911a1.45 ACP pistol. Serial #2089197. Here is some information that you can get from you serial number after 1921 Remington's manufactured after 1921 have a code located on the left side of the barrel near the frame that identifies the year and month of manufacture. The following letters correspond to the months of the year Month Codes: first letter.
- Before you jump be sure it is truely a Remington-Rand pistol, and not a R-R slide on some other contractor's frame. It is critically important to check the serial number against a list of numbers assigned to R-R, and also look for the inspector's mark 'F.J.A.'
- But when buying used shotgun or rifle, it is better to check when it was manufactured, that is why Remington serial number check was developed. Remington 700 or 1100 serial numbers can be decoded the same way as Remington 870 serial numbers. This decoder works for all Remington firearms which have two-letter code on their barrel.
